Vadim Yurievich Gololobov

Theatre Artist | Lighting Designer | Curator | Technical Director

Vadim Gololobov (b. 1964, Saint Petersburg) is a prominent Russian theatre artist known for his work in lighting design, technical direction, and cultural curation. He began his professional path with a degree from the Saint Petersburg Technological University (1987) and further trained in documentary film at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema (1990–1992).

He joined the internationally renowned DEREVO Theatre (Russia–Germany) in 1992 and has since played a significant role in the development of experimental and physical theatre in Russia and abroad. Since 2000, he has been a key figure in the Engineering Theatre “AKHE,” serving as its general director from 2010.

Gololobov has collaborated with leading theatres and festivals worldwide — including the Edinburgh Fringe, Diaghilev Festival, Mimos Festival (France), and the Alexandrinsky Theatre — and with notable artists such as Slava Polunin and Andrey Moguchi. His lighting designs and productions have toured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America.

In addition to his artistic work, Gololobov curates festivals (such as CrossArt and Russian Look), lectures on theatrical lighting  courses (including at the Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy), and manages large-scale interdisciplinary projects.

His work has received numerous international honors, including the Fringe First and Total Theatre Award (Edinburgh), the Golden Mask Innovation Award (Russia), and the Grand Jury Prize at the Mimos Festival (France). For the moment he is with Theatre AKHE based in France after exile from Russia.
