Tiago Hespanha
He graduated in architecture in 2004. In 2012 he completed the Master in Documental de Creación at Pompeu Fabra University, in Barcelona, Spain. He has been a partner of the film production company TERRATREME FILMES since 2008. In 2006 he was a student of the Documentary Directing Course at Ateliers Varan, produced by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Since then, he has been working in cinema as a director and collaborating with several creators in different areas. In 2009 he worked in the permanent team of Ateliers Varan, in Paris, and in 2010/2011. Since 2012 he has been a professor at the international documentary master's program DOCNOMADS - European Documentary Master Course.
He directed the films: Industrial Revolution, co-directed with Frederico Lobo (2014 - World Premiere at Visions du Réel, Nyon, Switzerland), Guided Tour (2009 - Audience Award at the Indielisboa International Film Festival, released on dvd by TERRATREME), O Presente que Veio de Longe (2008 – part of the collection “So Close, So Longe” edited on dvd by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), Despolido I and Despolido II (2007 – Prize at the Lisbon Microfilm Festival), Andar Modelo (2007) , Quinta da Curraleira (2006 – First Look Prize, Film and Video Meetings in Viana do Castelo).
